Irene was described by Walther von der Vogelweide as "the rose without a thorn, the dove without guile". After the murder of her husband Irene, who was pregnant, retired to Hohenstaufen Castle. Two months later she gave birth to a daughter, called Beatrix Posthuma. Both she and the baby died soon afterward. She was buried in the family mausoleum at Lorch Abbey, but her tomb has since been destroyed.

After the death of their father Harald, Bjorn’s half-brother Eirik "Bloodaxe" became King of Norway and quickly began quarreling with his brothers, who had received their own share of the kingdom. Bjorn and three of his brothers were killed by Eirik "Bloodaxe".
