William I of Lancaster, d. ABT 1170

His coat of arms was "argent, two bars gules, on a canton of the second a lion passant guardant or".

When he was young he was known as William de Tailboys. He was also called "Baron of Kendal" though there was no barony of Kendal at that time. William’s lineage is very confused with none of it proven by contemporary sources. We have used what seems to be the most likely.

Some sources suggest that this Gundred (wife of William) was actually the daughter of Gundred de Warenne and Roger de Beaumont
