Fulke Paganell, Baron of Dudley
It is not known the reason Fulke was made Baron of Dudley: it may have been due to marriage with a daughter of William FitzAnsculf, son of the Ansculf de Picquigny who built the first motte-and-bailey castle at Dudley, or because William FitzAnsculf was removed following a failed rebellion. Dudley Castle was made of timber originally, and was destroyed after the rebellion. Fulke or his son Ralph rebuilt Dudley Castle in stone. It was strong enough to resist a seige be King Stephen in 1138.
