William was excommunicated, for the second time, for "abducting" Dangerose, the wife of Almeric I of Chastellerault. When Philippa returned home from Poitiers to find her home taken over by another woman, she retired to the Abbey of Frontevault and died two years later. Dangerose was the mother of William's son's wife Eleanor de Chastelleraut.
