During the second exile of her husband, el Cid, Jimena and their children were imprisoned by Alfonso VI "the Valiant", King of Castile and Leon. Nothing else is known about her until el Cid secured his control over Valencia in October of 1094. She was Lady of Valencia from her husband's death in 1099 until 1102. In that year King Alphonso VI decided that Valencia could not be defended from the Almoravids, so he abandoned the city and burned it.
